Yuma County CO Infrastructure
1992 vs 2024
Project Overview:
This project involved comparing the infrastructure of Yuma County between 1992 and 2024 using geospatial analysis. The primary focus was on visualizing the changes in infrastructure over time, with the 1992 infrastructure being represented in a georeferenced image. By juxtaposing the historical image with current spatial data from 2024, which consisted solely of road data from CDOT, the project aimed to provide insights into the evolution of road networks within the county over the past few decades.
Geoprocessing and Visualization:
Georeferencing: The historical infrastructure data for Yuma County, Colorado from 1922 was georeferenced using the current roads data from CDOT in 2024. This process involved aligning the spatial features and coordinate systems of the 1922 image with the road networks present in the 2024 CDOT dataset. By establishing corresponding control points between the historical image and the current road data, the georeferencing ensured accurate spatial alignment, enabling meaningful comparisons between past and present infrastructure.
Visualization: Once the georeferencing was completed, the aligned historical infrastructure data from 1922 was visualized alongside the 2024 CDOT road open data. This visualization facilitated the comparison of infrastructure features between the two time periods, allowing for the identification of changes, developments, and trends in Yuma County's road networks over time.
Skills Demonstrated:
Georeferencing
Spatial analysis
Data visualization
Conclusion:
Through the georeferencing of the 1922 infrastructure image and comparison with current road data from CDOT in 2024, this project provided valuable insights into the evolution of road networks within Yuma County over the past few decades.
